If you choose to use valerian, use it as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare provider. Do not use more of this product than is recommended on the label.
Do not crush, chew, break, or open a valerian capsule. Swallow it whole.
If you need surgery, stop taking valerian at least 2 weeks ahead of time.
Call your doctor if the condition you are treating with valerian does not improve, or if it gets worse while using this product.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

The Calming Effects of Passionflower

Passionflower, also known as Passiflora incarnata, seems to live up to its name today: a plant that provides overflowing goodness for your mind and body. However, before talking about its potential health benefits, it’s important to learn about its long history.
Passionflower was first discovered by Spanish Jesuits in Peru in the 17th century, and was named for its resemblance to the crucifixion of Christ. The Peruvians used the flower as a sedative. Once it spread to Europe, it was used to treat restlessness and agitation, along with other ailments like indigestion and seizures. Today, it’s commonly used to treat anxiety.
Other than benefitting mental health, passionflower — or rather, its fruit, the maypop — is also used to flavor certain soft drinks, as well as Hawaiian Punch.

Passionflower Health Use Today

The Passiflora flower family may be helpful in treating ailments we face today, such as anxiety, insomnia, and even stomach upsets.

Gastrointestinal Help

When it comes to stomach problems, another member of the Passiflora family, passifloraceae, is more effective than Passiflora incarnata. One study in rats showed passifloraceae to be helpful against ulcers caused by alcohol or aspirin. An ulcer is a rip in the stomach lining. Along with a decrease in ulcers, the plant was also found to have great antioxidant potential. Hopefully future studies will look at the affect this herb has on human subjects.
Another study involving a different family member, Passiflora serratodigitata, also relieved ulcers with an extract made from the leaves and stems.

Soothes the Mind

Passiflora incarnta may provide relief from problems like nervousness and insomnia. It helps you mellow out by boosting the brain’s levelsof a chemical called GABA, which lowers your brain activity. As such, it shows potential as a good sleep aid.
In one trial, people who drank an herbal tea containing passionflower over seven days saw improvements in the quality of their sleep. However, the benefits seemed to be short-term, and it may be most helpful to those with mild sleep irregularities.
In addition to sleep, one trialshowed potential for passionflower as an anti-anxiety drug. Though the plant took longer to affect patients, it impaired their performance of work-related tasks less than oxazepam.
A more recent study of surgical patients showed decreases in stress and anxiety after taking passionflower.

How to Take Passionflower

We’ve seen that passionflower may be of benefit to stress, insomnia, and even stomach problems like ulcers. The best way to take passionflower is through tea. The NYU Langone Medical Center suggests making one cup three times a day by soaking one teaspoon of dried leaves for 10 to 15 minutes. For tinctures and extracts, follow the directions on the labels.
Passionflower is generally considered to be safe, although its use hasn’t yet been approved for children or pregnant or lactating women.

Boric Acid – More Effective Than Baking Soda for All Types of Fungus

When someone mentions boric acid (BA), many people think about harmful chemicals, but the truth is that this boron-derived substance can cure all types of fungus. It is a primary ingredient in many different efficient and inexpensive home remedies used for treating fungal infections like vaginal yeast infections or athlete’s foot infection. But, this is not where the list of health benefits of using boric acid stops.

Are you dealing with recurring eye irritations? Homemade eyewash based on boric acid (BA) can serve as cleanser that can combat infections and irritations in this area. This eyewash delivers easing relief fast and on top of that aids the elimination of contaminants located in the eye.
Many people are unaware that boric acid is used as a pest repellent at homes too. Homeowners have relied on BA as cockroach repellent for more than one hundred years. This is one of the best remedies against cockroaches ever and it has proven to be effective against other pests too.
What is great about boric acid is the fact that it is not very toxic to animals and humans compared to standard pesticides. Some of those pesticides have been associated with cancer, ADHD and other serious health issues. In addition, using boric acid comes with few other benefits.

Boric Acid Uses

As previously mentioned, it is used as a household item and a remedy. The following is a list of some of the benefits of using boric acid.
  1. Yeast Infections
Is it true that BA can help women treat and eliminate vaginal yeast infection? The answer is YES. There are experts who recommend specially designed vaginal boric acid capsules to fight vaginal yeast infections especially infections that cannot be removed with pharmaceutical drugs.
When it comes to yeast infections, BA is usually utilized as solid preparation that should be placed in the vagina before bedtime for a period of 10 to 15 days. The rate of success of this method goes up to 70% and this information was confirmed by the CDC.
A scientific study conducted not while ago and revealed in the popular Diabetes Care journal has shown that boric acid vaginal medications were much more efficient compared to oral azole drugs at least when it comes to candida signs and symptoms in women suffering from diabetes.
  1. Cockroach Eliminator
Unfortunately, cockroaches can appear literally everywhere – in homes, offices, shops, restaurants, factories etc. These insects are not only ugly and creepy, but they can also bring many serious problems in every environment and jeopardize the health of people who live or work in the same area where they live.
Roaches attract germs on the legs and they can spread these germs in food and other objects that people put in their mouth. It is not unusual for these bugs to spread salmonella or Escherichia coli.
What is even worse is that their dead skin cells, saliva and feces were associated with allergy and asthma attacks because they come with strong allergens that result in these reactions which are more common in kids.
Luckily, we can always rely on BA when we want to eliminate cockroaches. These persistent hideous bugs die even after walking in areas sprinkled with boric acid. Once they step on it, the powder stick to their body and penetrate their internal structure. A very small amount can make them stay away from your home while a higher amount can kill them almost instantly.
It has proven to be equally effective in ants, silverfish, termites, fleas, wood borers and beetles infestations.
  1. Eyewash
If you want to make inexpensive and highly efficient eyewash you should use boric acid diluted in water. It doesn’t really matter whether you are dealing with some mild eye irritation or you have some serious infection, eyewash based on boric acid can eliminate the issue by easing the symptoms of inflammation and eliminating bacterial infections.
It is also very effective in cases of pinkeye symptoms and signs.
If you are skeptical about this, you should know that some of the best commercial eyewashes contain boric acid in high amounts. In order to ease the symptoms of such irritations and infections, prepare a boric acid mouthwash at home.
  1. Acne
There are many people who use boric acid when they notice acne. As a matter of fact, many products used for external treatment of acne and other skin disorders and problems include boric acid.
Boric acid has strong antibacterial properties and as you know acne is formed as a result of the presence of bacteria. So, logically, BA can aid the elimination of bacteria and remove acne. But, we must point out that using boric acid comes with certain side effects like skin irritation in some cases.
There are many countries around the globe that have banned boric acid in cosmetic products. The EGW labels this acid as an acid that is linked to certain health issues.
  1. Athlete’s Foot
As previously mentioned, boric acid can be very helpful in cases of fungal infections including toenail fungus and athlete’s foot. Only a small amount of boric acid (a few sprinkles) powder in the stockings or socks can aid the elimination of minor infections and soothe the burning and itching sensation caused by athlete’s foot.
In addition, BA can remove the unpleasant foot smell that comes as a result of athlete’s foot.
But, how exactly BA heals athlete’s foot? Boric acid alters the pH value of the skin and aids the removal of dead skin cells (exfoliation) and these dead skin cells make the fungus thrive. Boric acid is a very powerful fungicide and even if commercial antifungal creams and lotions can’t help, it is very likely that BA will help.
  1. Cleaner
BA is often used as a strong house cleaning product, stain eliminator, deodorizer, mold eliminator and disinfectant. Feel free to pour some boric acid to the laundry if you want to thoroughly clean the laundry and remove stains. Many people use it to scrape and clean toilet bowls. Just pour some boric acid and wait for half an hour before you start cleaning.

What Exactly Is Boric Acid?

Boric acid comes in the form of white powder obtained from water and boron and had strong antibiotic properties that are very helpful in cases of bacterial and fungal infections. According to the Women’s Health Journal, BA is safe, inexpensive and alternative solution for women that experience frequent and chronic symptoms and signs of vaginal yeast infection.
Even if the standard treatment is ineffective, boric acid can help.
Boric acid or BA or H3BO3 is a white acid in crystalline form that includes oxygen and it is part of boron. On the other hand, this element is part of specific volcanic waters, hot springs and minerals. Many people call it boracic acid, hydrogen borate, acidum boricum and orthoboric acid.
More than 65 years ago, BA was registered in the United States as a regular insecticide used for repelling and eliminating termites, cockroaches, fire ants, silverfish, fleas and other bugs. Besides being an efficient insecticide, boric acid also protects the timber from dry and wet rot and eliminates the consequences in case this process has already started.
BA is added to salt for treating calf skins, cattle hides and sheepskins. The BA is there to manage bacteria and insects development. In agriculture, boric acid is used to prevent and eliminate lack of boron in plants.
BA is commonly found in products and activities like:
  • Glazes and enamels
  • Astringents and antiseptics
  • Medically treated powders
  • Manufacturing of glass fiber
  • Certain paints
  • Skin lotions
  • Chemicals used in photography
  • Certain ant and rodent pesticides
  • Certain eyewash products
  • Powders for cockroach elimination

Using Boric Acid for Fungal and Yeast Infections

When we talk about yeast infections, you can prepare boric acid solid medical preparations by adding BA to regular size zero gelatin capsules. In other words, you will fill them with 600 mg of BA. The conventional treatment of yeast infection with BA requires the use of BA packed capsule inserted directly in the vagina before you go to sleep in a period of seven days.
In case yeast infections are recurring, you must extend the treatment to 15 days. After that, you should use the capsules two times a week for half a year.
In order to prepare eyewash based on boric acid, you must buy pharma grade boric acid powder. To start with, take one eyedropper or eye cup and sterilize it. After that, create a mixture by adding 1/8 teaspoon of BA in one standard cup of cool, filtered water.
The acid should be able to dissolve right away. In case you are using an eye cup, just fill this cup and put the eye inside. Roll and blink for a few times. Those who will use an eyedropper should squeeze the bulb located on the dropper. Perform this procedure for a few times. Do this, three times a day. The tools must be sterilized all the time.
In cases of athlete’s foot, create a mixture of rubbing alcohol and boric acid. Two teaspoons of BA must be added to one cup of water or rubbing alcohol. Use cotton swabs to apply it on the affected area. In addition, you can sprinkle some dry powder in the socks to prevent or heal this infection.
If you want to eliminate cockroaches and other similar pests, you must use boric acid in a proper way. Cockroaches usually dwell and operate in the kitchens and bathrooms even though it is not unusual to witness cockroach infestation in other parts of the home. Roaches usually choose cracks in the walls, isolated areas and crevices that are close to food sources. They also prefer areas that are warm and areas with high levels of moisture.
So, if you want to witness the best effects, BA powder must be placed in the form of extremely thin layer in the areas where cockroaches are active. Some good examples of areas where cockroaches dwell are behind and in front of the fridge, dishwasher and stove, the places where plumbing pipes exit the walls and in cracks found in corners and edges inside pantries, shelves and cabinets.
Once you use this powder, try to isolate these areas and make your kids and pets stay away from them. Even though BA is much safer compared to chemical pesticides, this compound is toxic.
Those interested in stain and odor removal from their clothes should use half a cup of boric acid to the laundry load. In addition, you should feel free to use the same amount of this acid in the toilet blow and leave it for half an hour. BA will eliminate stains and on top of that it will neutralize the odor.

Simple Boric Acid Recipes

Experts agree that the most efficient and useful boric acid recipes are the recipes focused on treating two health issues – athlete’s foot and yeast infection. They are fungal infections that affect hundreds of people, but BA will make them go away for a long time.

Vaginal Yeast Infection Boric Acid Recipe

Ingredients:
  • Size zero gelatin capsules
  • 600 mg of BA.
Instructions:
  • Place one capsule filled with boric acid inside the vagina before you go to bed. Practice this procedure for seven days in a row.

Athlete’s Foot Boric Acid Recipe

  • Two teaspoons of BA.
Instructions:
  • Take all the ingredients, mix them well and apply the mixture on the feet with the help of cotton swabs.
  • In addition, you can use dry boric acid powder in the socks.

Boric Acid Safety Measures

BA should not be used orally, directly on open wounds or by kids. Taking BA orally can be lethal. In case you swallow boric acid, visit a hospital right away.
It is wise to keep BA in a safe location where children can’t reach it. In the past many babies have died as a result of boric acid intake because it was used as a disinfectant in hospitals.
If boric acid is used for yeast infections in the form of capsules, it is not unusual to experience skin irritation. Boric acid should not be used in any form and way if the woman is pregnant.
If you are using contact lenses, you should not use BA eye wash. Wait for about 15-20 minutes after you use BA before you put back your lenses. In case you have open wound close to your eyes or in your eyes don’t use BA. Consult a doctor in case you have such wounds.
In addition, you should consult a doctor if you notice any problems with your vision, eye pain, prolonged redness and eye irritation after applying boric acid.
You should never use it on kitchen counter-tops and other similar surfaces used for food preparation. In case boric acid sticks to the skin, wash the affected area carefully. If your eyes get in touch with pure boric acid, use cool water to wash them thoroughly.
Finally, in case you consume boric acid by accident, look for medical help right away.

Boric Acid Conclusion

Blushwood – Amazing Plant Proven To Treat 75% of All Types of Cancer Within 25 Days

The first effects of this plant’s actions are visible within 2 weeks, until the whole tumors disappear within 25-30 days – it just falls off of the skin.
Blushwood has exceptional medicinal properties that are thought to take priority in combating the tumor in the near future. In the north of Queensland, Australia, in the rain forest, a smaller population Blushwood (Hylandia dockrillii) has developed, whose traits were scientifically studied for eight years and came to startling data.
Out of 200 animals (horses, dogs, Tasmanian devils, cats) which were artificially induced with tumors of the neck and melanomas, the application extracts from the berries of this plant cured the tumor in 75% of the cases. According to the researchers, none of cured tumors returned afterwards.
Blushwood berries contain compound that directs the blood flow from the infected tissue and thus stimulates the immune system of the organism to actively decompose the tumor and kills the tumor cells.
The researchers noted that this drug has no side effects. The first effects are visible within 2 weeks, until the whole tumors disappear within 25 – 30 days, simply falling off the skin.
But blushwood has its limitations. It is extremely difficult to grow it in areas outside of the northern Queensland. But do not be sad because plants that have very similar effects on tumors are everywhere around us, and the two most effective are following below in this article.

Hemp Oil-A Month of Use

Four years of chemotherapy has destroyed Croatian human’s organism. When he started using it in Croatia illegally, the miraculously hemp oil changed this man’s life.
This man literally spit the tumor through the mouth and so it is solved forever. After a month of using it, this man was holding his tumor in both his hand. Cannabis oil really works miracles and cures cancer, which can be confirmed by millions of people around the world who found salvation.

Carrots – 8 Months of Use

Ann Cameron managed to cure colon cancer in the fourth phase by drinking only carrot juice, without changes in diet, radiation and chemotherapy. After the surgery of the cancer in the third stage, the situation has worsened and cancer metastasized to the lungs in late 2012.
Doctors recommended her chemotherapy, regardless of the fact that it could not extend her life. She refused, and as she was studying alternative methods of treatment, was found information about Ralph Cole who cured his cancer thanks to carrot juice (2 pounds of carrot juice per day). Thus she began her healing journey, drinking the same amount.
By the way, she forgot about the juice for three even four days, and she kept eating all kinds of food, sometimes unhealthy. So, the only change in her life was the carrot juice.
In January 2013, after eight weeks of drinking carrot juice on a daily basis, CT scan showed that the cancerous tumors have stopped growing. There was a small reduction in tumor and swelling of the lymph nodes. In March 2013 the existing tumors continue to decrease, there were no swollen lymph nodes and no new tumor cells.
In July 2013, the cancer was completely gone and all swollen lymph nodes returned to normal. After eight months of drinking carrot juice the cancer was completely gone. All the world’s media told her story, but she it is not the only example, there are plenty.

Ayurvedic Medicine for Weight Loss

As you grow older, don’t you find it more difficult to lose weight?
Most people who are watching their weight or attempting to weight loss would tell you their ordeal – how they get motivated and then demotivated again. How the weighing scale simply does not move in the direction they want and how every thing they eat simply goes straight to their tummy or their hips.
Weight loss just through diet and exercise may not always be possible. Often, you need that extra push to fight fat and get rid of the stubborn last few kilos. Ayurveda, fortunately, has the answer to your problems.
According to Ayurveda, the food we eat is converted into energy and the toxins are removed from the body. However, if we do not use our body efficiently, these toxins are not removed in their entirety. Instead, these toxins accumulate and then wreak havoc on your body. Ultimately, they cause fat to accumulate in the body as well. This fat is stubborn and refuses to budge – no matter how much you exercise or control your diet.

Why Should You Worry About Your Weight?

In our modern world, where appearances are given a lot of importance, overweight simply costs you too much. It is detrimental for your self esteem – not to mention your health. The more excessive weight you carry, the more prone you become to various diseases and disorders. From joint pain to blood pressure and diabetes, there is no dearth of lifestyle diseases that you may succumb to just because of your extra weight. Overweight is also not good for your mental health. Ayurveda believes that only a healthy body houses a healthy mind. So if your body is not healthy, your mind is not healthy either.

What are the Causes of Excessive Weight?

Obesity is caused due to many factors. However, a sedentary lifestyle and irregular eating habits are the two main causes of obesity. Simply put, if your caloric intake is more than the calories you expend in a day, the excessive calories are converted into fat and stored for later use. However, since you continue to burn less calories than you consume, you may end up overweight. There are other causes of obesity as well. These are:
  • Medical conditions such as thyroid disorders
  • Overeating due to emotional disturbances
  • Depression
  • Genetic constitution and
  • Metabolic disorders.

Ayurveda, Modern Medicine and Obesity

Ayurvedic medicine for weight loss comes very close to modern medicine as far as obesity is concerned. Both Ayurveda and modern medicine are in agreement that obesity is caused due to an imbalance between caloric intake and expending. Both Ayurveda and modern medicine recommend a balanced diet and regular exercise for fighting obesity. However, modern medicine has an entire field of bariatrics dedicated to obesity and weight loss.
This is a discipline in which surgical methods are used to remove excessive fat from specific areas of the body. Surgical methods and machines may also be used for body shaping and contouring.
With Ayurvedic medicine for weight loss, you can efficiently cure obesity and get rid of stubborn fat without having to resort to painful surgery, which may often be riddled with side effects. Ayurvedic treatment for weight loss has a three pronged approach.
First, you use herbs for weight loss and slimming pills to mobilize stubborn fat. Then, you use a carefully constructed diet plan for weight loss. Then, to maintain a healthy weight, you make an exercise schedule and stick to it. If there is anyone who says that their weight loss medicine can help you lose excessive weight without any dieting and exercising, they are probably lying to you.

Ayurvedic Medicine for Weight Loss

Ayurveda has always propagated a wide range of treatments for numerous afflictions with far reaching consequences. Of course, weight loss has been no exception. Today, thanks to Ayurvedic medicines, we find that excess weight can easily be lost without a fuss, that too without any side effects.

Natural ingredients

As is the primary characteristic of Ayurveda, where complete emphasis is placed on naturally available therapeutic ingredients, for weight loss too, the ingredients in question continue to be completely natural with no potential side effects. We specifically mention this because many artificial weight loss pills or other medications, weight loss programs, etc. often lead up to a situation where there are side effects galore. With Ayurvedic medicine for weight loss, there are no such concerns.
Below we look at some natural items that commonly find place in Ayurvedic medications for weight loss:
  1. Kalonji – Scientifically known as Nigella sativa, kalonji works very well when it comes to losing weight naturally. In particular, its seed extract ends up doing a world of good, especially when it comes to maintaining ideal body mass indexes.
  2. Ginger – Ginger is another completely natural item that is great for weight loss and hence finds prominence when it comes to Ayurvedic medication for weight loss. Some of its characteristics towards this end include better metabolism of the system, stimulating oxidation of fatty acids in the body, as well as lowering blood cholesterol levels.
  3. Guggul – Guggul works very well when it comes to improving good cholesterol in the system and thus, again happens to find prominence in Ayurvedic medication for weight loss.
  4. Licorice – Licorice is particularly very good for the liver and indeed blood quality in the system, especially thanks to the way in which it manages to bring down triglyceride levels.
There are many other naturally occurring items that feature prominently in Ayurvedic treatment for obesity. The key aspect to understand here is that Ayurveda stresses on the natural and easy ways in which one can lose weight without having to undergo mental or physical stress and strain.

Diet or No Diet?

Once you are on Ayurvedic weight loss supplements, there are no major constraints as far as one’s typical day-to-day diet is concerned.
At the same time, of course one cannot be eating excessive fatty, oily food and then expect the medication to do its job on its own!

Ayurvedic Home Remedies for Weight Loss

There are several different home remedies for weight loss that can be used efficiently for shedding a few extra kilos. Some of these are:
  • Drink a glass of lukewarm water, with a juice of lemon squeezed into it every morning on an empty stomach.
  • Fast on honey and lime juice, as this a very healthy detoxification remedy which can effectively help you purify your body and improve metabolism.
  • Soak a teaspoon of carom seeds and cumin seeds each in a glass of water. Leave this overnight. In the morning, bring this concoction to a boil. Reduce the water to half and then drink it early morning every day. This helps prevent water retention in the body.

Ayurvedic Herbs for Weight Loss

Mint
pudinaMint, referred to as Pudinah in Hindi/ Sanskrit, has extremely powerful weight loss inducing abilities, thanks in particular to the way in which it stimulates the gall bladder to release additional bile, which of course makes fat digestion a lot easier (instead of letting it accumulate on the system).

These environmental toxins find a way to enter into your body and harm you in some way or the other. A detox or herbal tea every day can help clear your system and lose weight steadily. Triphala is another herb that helps you cleanse your blood naturally, removing toxins and bringing good health to you. Additionally, you can time your meals appropriately. Eat 50% of your calories at lunch time. Eat a very sparse meal at dinner time. This would help you watch your weight as well.

25 Proven Ancient Home Remedies With Science Behind Them

What did the Mayans use for an enlarged prostate? How did Native Americans relieve bronchial congestion? Herbalism, or herbal medicine, has been overlooked during the twentieth century by many physicians and hospitals. But, new research, especially by the Mayo Clinic and other research facilities, show that some herbs hold their own as scientifically-sound remedies for many ills.
With that said, some — such as the plants in the nightshade family — might be avoided, especially for individuals who suffer from arthritis. And, some people might experience adverse affects from some herbs, just as they would from other manufactured medicines. Finally, mixing herbs and medications might not be a wise idea, so check with your doctor before you attempt to treat anything with herbs.
The following list is a small sample of some herbs that might help relieve some of your adverse symptoms. Some herbs are applied topically as poultices, and others are ingested as teas and tinctures. The list is in alphabetical order, and we tried to provide a variety of links to introduce you to new herbal information resources.

So These Are The 25 Proven Ancient Home Remedies With Science Behind Them

    1. Aloe: The clear gel within the leaves of this plant is a superior remedy for burns. Use it for thermal burns, sunburns or any skin irritation. Aloe Vera juice is intended for internal use, and its main use is to help heal ulcers and other intestinal irritations. The juice is not pleasant for the most part, but you only need a teaspoon after meals. Otherwise, the juice becomes a laxative.
    2. Black Cohosh : Also known as “Squawroot,” the root extract has been long known to eleviate menstrual cramps. Recent experiments suggest that the tea made from this root contains sedative and anti-inflammatory effects. Black cohosh is toxic in large doses, and pregnant women should avoid this herb.
    3. Blackberry Root : Blackberry root bark has been used as an herbal remedy for diarrhea. Users can find tinctures in health food stores. If so, then a teaspoon every two to four hours may do the trick.
    4. Cayenne: Christopher Columbus first introduced cayenne to the Old World and since then cayenne has become a culinary and medicinal staple. Cayenne has been known to relieve toothache, a digestive aid, and a way to alleviate pain as an ointment. Capsaicin is the ingredient of note, used externally to relieve arthritic pain.
    5. Chamomile: This tea is a great home remedy for upset stomachs as it can help relieve heartburn, Ancient Home Remediesindigestion and colic. It also is a mild relaxant and sedative, good to drink before bedtime.
    6. Cinnamon: This herb will warm you up, as it promotes circulation. If you have a job where you need to sit all day long, use cinnamon tea to get you going rather than coffee.
    7. Comfrey: Use the root of this plant to make a poultice for wounds that never seem to heal, such as bed sores, brown recluse spider bites and diabetic ulcers. Once a day, mix powdered comfrey root with aloe vera gel to make a paste, pack it into the wound and cover with a bandage.
    8. Dandelion: Dandelion tea is used to help relieve kidney and liver disorders. It is not toxic, so no worries about overdosing.
    9. Echinacea: Antibiotic, antiviral and immune-enhancer. This native American plant is a fine first-line treatment for colds and flu. At the first sign of trouble, begin taking echinacea and continue until the illness runs its course. Children under 10 can take half the adult dosage.
    10. Eucalyptus: These evergreens are native to Australia, and the oils from the leaves have long been known to relieve chest congestion and bronchial problems. If you don”t like the eucalyptus teas, simply pour hot water over a few leaves and inhale the steam twice per day. Try sage teas for a sore throat.
    11. Evening Primrose Oil : This oil, along with black currant and borage oils contain a fatty acid called GLA (gamma linolenic acid). GLA is an effective anti-inflammatory agent with none of the side effects of anti-inflammatory drugs. These oils also promote healthy skin, hair and nail growth. But, it takes some two to three months of continuous use for these oils to take effect.
    12. Fennel Seed: Forget those over-the-counter gas pain relievers. Chew a half-teaspoon of fennel seeds – also known as Star Anise – after each meal or when you feel bloated to help expel gas from your intestines.
    13. Garlic: Known as an antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer and cardiovascular tonic. Chop or chew two cloves daily to release the sulphur compound that contains the antibiotic effects for colds.
    14. Ginger: My father has tried everything to relieve arthritic pain, so when he read that powdered ginger would help, he was game. Within thirty days after taking capsules twice per day, the pain was gone. He continues to use it to this day. Ginger tea also is good for head and chest congestion.
    15. Ginseng: Long known as an aphrodisiac, ginger actually helps to increase energy levels. But, too much Ancient Home Remediescan cause headaches or insomnia.
    16. Horse Chestnut : Horse chestnut has been used to treat spider and varicose veins when used as a topical application. It is sometimes sold under the name Escin.
    17. Horseradish: If you can tolerate freshly prepared horseradish, or if you prefer horseradish prepared as hot mustards or wasabi, enjoy as much as you can tolerate to help liquefy bronchial congestion.
    18. Lobelia : Also known as “Indian tobacco,” lobelia is used as a remedy for asthma. The standard “recipe” is one part capsaicum (cayenne) tincture to three parts lobelia tincture. Take twenty drops of the mixture in water at the start of an asthmatic attack and repeat every half hour for a maximum of three doses.
    19. Mint : Mints, including peppermint, is a digestive remedy used for heartburn, indigestion and nausea treatments. Try the teas and drink as much as you want.
    20. Mullein : More prevalent in the western U.S., mullein is a tall common weed that produces large leaves and a flowering spike as it matures. Smoking the leaves is a treatment for respiratory ailments, including chest congestion and dry bronchial coughs. If you”re not up to smoking the leaves, then try a tincture, with a dropper-full in warm water every four hours.
    21. Nightshade : Although nightshade sounds eerie, nightshade plants include tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and peppers. Rather than eat these foods, you might want to avoid them if you want to relieve arthritic pain.
    22. Psyllium Seed : These seeds come from a plantain species and are used as a source of fiber. These seeds are the source of many popular commercial laxatives, but you can purchase the powdered variety without all the additives at most health food stores. The only precaution is to drink plenty of water if you take this remedy, otherwise the remedy may become a blockage issue.
    23. Saw Palmetto : This plant is used extensively in Europe to treat symptoms aligned with benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlargement of the prostate). This use can be traced back to the Mayans.
    24. Spirulina : Spirulina and chlorella are two varieties of freshwater algae, which are dried and sold as dark green powders or tablets. They are touted as miracle substances, but other than the claim that this is an excellent source of protein for vegetarians, there is little evidence that spirulina is a health cure for any ailment.
    25. Tea Tree Oil : This oil is a great treatment for skin and nail fungal infections. Just paint the oil on affected areas two or three times a day.
